About The Burwell Program

The Burwell Program is a school located in LaGrange, Georgia that is part of the Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support (GNETS).  Burwell, LaGrange site serves fifty-five students, pre-k through eighth grades, which come from Troup and Meriwether Counties.  The school has six classrooms, six teachers, seven teacher’s assistants, a director, a psychologist, a secretary, and an assistant coordinator/social worker.  The students served at Burwell all have some type of severe emotional/behavioral disability that is impeding them from learning in the regular classroom.  They have a variety of intelligence levels, although Burwell is not a school set up to serve children with extremely low IQ’s.  As a school, we are mandated to both provide therapeutic and cognitive/behavioral services while also teaching the same state standards as other schools.  Doing this requires creativity, adaptability, patience, and multiple resources.
