My name is Alison Holmes and I am the proud mother of two beautiful children, Trevor, who is 5, and Lacey, who is 3. We are expecting our 3rd child in October. I have been married to my husband, Lee Holmes, for 9 years. I am completing this blog as a requirement for a class in the Ed.S program that I am taking at LaGrange College.
I am currently in my 10th year of teaching at The Burwell Program. I actually began my teaching career there at the age of 19 as a teaching assistant. I loved working with children that have been diagnosed with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders so much, that I went back to school to finish my degree. Upon graduation, I returned in 2001 as a teacher.
I am currently teaching 6th graders, but have taught 4th 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th grades (s0metime in combination). During the course of the past 10 years, I have had the opportunity to teach students with many disabilities. Some of these disabilities include ADD/ADHD, OCD, Intermittant Explosive Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Tourette Syndrome, Depression, Autism, and the one I am most intrigued by Selective Mutism. I love teaching and could not see myself doing anything else.
